Raccoon

Procyon lotor

Description:

A medium sized animal with distinctive bandit face mask and ringed tail, the adults have a large humped back. Grey / Brown with Black and White highlights. These pictures were taken at a wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation center. These are young raccoons who were to be released back into the wild.

Habitat:

Cities, Forests, Fields - very adaptable.

Notes:

These pictures were taken at a wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation center. These are young raccoons who were to be released back into the wild where they were originally found, after they were old enough to fend for themselves. It is strongly recommended not to get particularly close to wild raccoons, and while the little ones can be cute and cuddly looking, the larger ones can be right hostile. Particularly wily, they are inventive garbage bandits, and will often wash their food in water with their "hands".
