Larva to Pupa (Part 3)

Description:

The large spiny larva in the 2 previous spottings (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/126...) and (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/126...) remained in its very vulnerable prepupal stage for 5 days, finally pupating on 22 Jan 15. The first picture was taken 1 hour following pupation and shows the shed larval exuvia next to it. The 2nd and 3rd pictures were taken 1 day after pupation when the pupal skin reached its darkened color which occurs when exposed to oxygen. Looking closely at the patterns on the head, it seems that it will be a male from the large antennal markings.

Habitat:

Semi-urban garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
