Goldfinch

Carduelis carduelis

Description:

Another "Name's the same" binomial name (Carduelis carduelis)! Here's why to care about binomial (scientific, Latin) names: http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/2870249...

Habitat:

The goldfinch breeds across Europe, North Africa, and western and central Asia, in open, partially wooded lowlands. It is resident in the milder west of its range, but migrates from colder regions. It will also make local movements, even in the west, to escape bad weather. It has been introduced to many areas of the world. (Wikipedia

I'm glad there are protections in place now, Antonio. These are such lovely little birds! I've seen them in Austria too, so maybe there are populations in better shape than those in Portugal.

they mnake a new hibrid species that they call in portuguese Travesso, that mean crossed, but the new species cant breed,so they continued since 80's hunting them to croos with the canarys to obtain the so call Travesso because he was a super singer,in the 80's the CE protected policies began to make efect and the species is slowing becaming more common, but continue to be a rare bird to see

That's terrible, Antonio. When they cross breed them with canaries, do they make viable offspring; a new species?

Great spotting Ava,beautifull bird,it was very common in my area but during decades birds breathers capture them to mix with canarys and the result is that now they are rare, super, congrats and thanks for sharing
