Variegated Fritillary (Caterpillar)

Euptoieta claudia

Description:

Our family discovered an invasion of these caterpillars in our flower garden. They are red, with black spines, and white "spots" between the spines. It is an interesting creature, but it is feeding on most of our flowers!

Habitat:

Temperate regions of North America.

Notes:

This species has a metallic chrysalid, with the spikes being somewhat conserved. I hope to find a chrysalid or two once the caterpillars are ready, and add a few pictures of them!

Thank you, Emma! I'm enjoying this Global Project; it's really helping to fuel my novel, but growing interest in nature. :)

Hello. This has been added to the Brooding behavior mission but unfortunately it does not fit. Thanks for removing it.
