Butorides virescens
This green heron was first spotted "fishing" from the boardwalk over the wetlands. I was birding with two other birders and we were joking about the likelihood of the heron being successful as it could not reach the water while standing on the boardwalk. No more had we said that then the heron leaps off the board walk, snags a frog and flies about 20 yards away to eat. It took the bird about ten minutes to work the frog around into its mouth (see fourth picture).

Louisa (not Louis) -- typo -- sorry.
Louis and Lisa, Thanks for the kind comments. I've been fiddling with a new camera and actually took about 150 shots of the heron while it was downing the frog. I felt that these five told the story pretty well.
Oops, there is one less American bullfrog in the world, but I guess everything must eat! Very nice spotting and series. It does bring to mind though the cartoon of the heron trying to swallo a frog, but the frog is strangling the heron around the neck. The caption reads, 'Never give up."
Great series and spotting Bob! Photo #4 is my favorite!
