Almost didn't see it at all because it blended in so well with the savanna. When we spotted it, an eagle snake was nearby, waiting to strike. Our persistence watching the cobra eventually made the eagle give up.

Thanks everyone! I wish I had a better camera when I was there so the photo would have been clearer, but I think the photo turned out pretty good given the circumstances.

I wasn't super close. I was in a land rover with the windows up. I'm zoomed in pretty far. I'd say the cobra was about 20 feet from the jeep.
