Storeria dekayi
A small (8 inches) brown snake with paired markings on the dorsum.
Found this young one crawling along one of my rock walled flower beds.
These guys are common in urban habitats and feed on snails, slugs and other invertebrates. They are also ovoviviparous, meaning the membranous, soft eggs are withheld in the body until the young are fully developed, then the female gives birth to the tiny little baby snakes.

Awesome!
Nice series.
Beautiful snake! Love the markings on it.
There are quite a few that are like that. All of the venomous species here in Tennessee (pit vipers) and many of the aquatic species are ovovivparous.
The california King Snake lays eggs.
interesting fact that this snake is ovovivparous!Thnx for sharing!
