Spatterdock

Nuphar advena

Description:

The seeds are a major food source for Purple Gallinules. The plant is used for phytoremediation, which is the de-pollution of contaminated soils, water or air with plants able to contain, degrade or eliminate metals, pesticides, solvents, explosives, crude oil and its derivatives, and various other contaminants, from the mediums that contain them. This is important because the park was actually made for water treatment

Habitat:

Artificial marsh at Orlando Wetlands Park
