Gallium Sphinx

Hyles gallii

Description:

Large moth with a streamlined appearance. Olive green body with tan/white lines on forewings, pink and black on underwings. This species is found in North America and in Eurasia. http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Tax...

Habitat:

Rural yard with long grass.

Notes:

Found this beauty hiding in the grass in the morning. It was a bit lethargic so I was able to get most of the shots I wanted before it warmed up and flew away. I tried to get a good shot of the underwings but only ended up with the one last photo as the moth was getting ready to launch itself off of my shirt.

Thank you Uday! I enjoy handling the larger moths when I can find them. I have always liked the Sphinx moths.
