Green-tailed Towhee

Pipilo chlorurus

Description:

One of the Towhee family in the Sparrow species. Gray upper body with white throat, mustache and above eyes. Reddish crown and olive green back and tail. Parts of the wings and tail has yellow green blended in.

Habitat:

They live mostly in live in dense, shrubby habitat at high elevations. This and some others have come down for unknown reasons. Possibly for food. So this is considered a rare bird in this area.

Notes:

Usually elusive but this one was just on the side of a trail with in the hills.
