Crambid Moth

Metasia capnochroa

Description:

With a wing span of 15 mm, this small crambid moth had pale brown wings ( upper sides) with well separated thin dark wavy lines. Near the costa and half way down each fore wing was a white chevron mark. Costae had black and white marks. The underside of the wings were a pale grey with black markings (pic 3) The moth was resting on long legs with the upper part of the body held up at an angle. Legs had short spikes. Antennae were swept back. Mouth parts formed a short snout.

Habitat:

Resting on native grass (Ghania) in a nature reserve.
