Pool Frog

Pelophylax lessonae

Habitat:

A forest pond in Franconia, Germany

Notes:

I have found a beautiful forest pond with a quite numerous population of pool frogs (Pelophylax lessonae). I have never seen so many before. Pool frogs are getting rare in Germany – as a result of interbreeding with marsh frogs (P. ridibundus) and habitat destruction. Therefore I was particularly glad to find them. Yesterday it was a special photo shooting day dedicated to this amphibian species: I spent many hours with frogs in the pond.
