The density of the brownish spots suggest whether is is a male or female.

THe markings on your Imperial Moth look quite different from the one I found...so at first I thought it was a different species. Scroll down on the Wikipedia link to see the numerous variations of patterns! Really neat moth!

:) thanks. I wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been shuffling around on the tree. There were leaves all around that were exactly the same color
