Great blue heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

Approx 3' tall. Typical marking of blue heron. Grayish blue back with white belly. Dark beak with some orange on lower beak.

Costal Wetlands

Notes:

The Bird walked up to the cooler of the fisherman as if it knew there was food in it. (The fisherman told me there was shrimp in the cooler) It also seemed relatively at ease with us being close by. It was is as if the bird has learned that he can get food from fisherman. Temp outside was approx 73 degrees. Picture taken early morning around 7:00a just after sunrise and at low tide. Water clarity was normal for the ocean.
