Rosa rugosa
Fruiting bush at a rest stop in Maine. Has magenta blooms that are mostly shriveled. A species of rose native to eastern Asia, in northeastern China, Japan, Korea and southeastern Siberia, where it grows on the coast, often on sand dunes.
Cultivated.

To be clear it definitely is not the Nootka rose, but it is a similar species.
What kind of roses do you have growing there in Maine? Looks like our Nootka rose (Rosa nutkana) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_nutkan...
