Three-spot Anglerfish (juvenile)

Description:

Also called Randall's Frogfish, adults are recognized by three white or dark spots on its body (depending on its coloration). They grow to a maximum size of 2.5cm in length.

Habitat:

Benthic, reef-associated; inhabits outer reef slopes, at depths of 8 to 31m. Distribution: Taiwan, Philippines, Moluccas, Fiji, Marshall Islands, Easter Island.

Notes:

This baby frogfish was spotted during a night dive at a depth of about 16 to 18m, at Dayang Beach, Talikud Island, Samal, Philippines. It measured about 1cm long and blended almost perfectly with the rubble where it was hiding.
