Slate-coloured Hawk

Buteogallus schistaceus

Description:

This is a medium-sized hawk, per the photo it is overall slate-gray in color. Numerous individuals were spotted in the Upper Amazon, Pacaya Samiria Reserve.

Habitat:

Amazon rainforest. Up-river from this spotting, close to Iquitos, a petroleum/chemical plant was being constructed. The Amazon is rich in minerals and natural resources...it will only be a matter of time before the area becomes industrialized. It is pristine now, maybe less so in the future.
