Banded Orb-weaving Spider, male

Argiope trifasciata

Description:

A thin male example of the St Andrews Cross spider. He is missing a leg and might have survived some danger recently. His web was across the road from the female in the previous spotting .

Habitat:

A large strong web near the highway and in long grass.

Notes:

The palps are typical of males. I have seen a male before, in Sydney and now, after this sighting, I am wondering if that sighting may be a juvenile.

:) I'd be happy if I was left with two.

Definitely looks like a male spider. They are a third the size of females and as Mark pointed out, most of the males seem to have legs missing !

Definitely male. You can tell by the number of legs missing (and the palps) Ha ha!
