Butorides virescens
A Green Heron spotted in the central wetland area at Huntley Meadows Park. This individual is eating a male Common Whitetail dragonfly. The backstory: Two male Common Whitetail dragonflies were flying in circles around the Green Heron's head: one dragonfly flew too close to the bird; game over, dragonfly! The Common Whitetail that survived is shown in the foreground of Photo 2; a male Eastern Amberwing dragonfly is shown in the foreground of Photo 1.

Geodialist, I invite you to add this spotting to the mission Birds of Huntley Meadows Park at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/1325...
Thanks to everyone for the favorites and comments! Rob, if you hang out around egrets and herons long enough then you will see them catch lots of prey -- those birds are great hunters! In fact, if Louisa would put down her camera long enough to post some photos on PN, then you will see some great heron-versus-frogs-and-dragons action! ;-)
cool capture !!
Great photos Walter.....this was definitely one of the highlights of the day for me!
