Tyto alba
White and tan owls spotted on a beam on the upper part of the Northside silo at Eufaula NWR, Bradley Unit near Lumpkin, GA.
The silos are in the middle of the Bradley Unit. Eufaula NWR is primarily in Alabama and skirts the Chattahoochee River. The Bradley Unit is on the Ga side with many waterfowl impoundments. I birded the northern loop, consisting mainly of hard wood trees. The impoundments are littered with young trees, probably cedar. There are elevated roads that keep the impoundments intact but the roads are closed and are restricted to foot traffic. The north loop is nearly 5 miles making the entire park 10 miles of trail roads, easily. The north side is the only area where I saw the most pine trees.
At the base of the silo is a huge pile of bones in what looks like about 6 inches of water. I suspect these owls have been here for some time. The only light available is the 1 x 2 foot oval hole in the concrete silo.
