Eristalis tenax

Description:

Eristalis tenax is a European hoverfly, also known as the drone fly. This bee mimic and its relatives are fairly common generalist pollinators.

Habitat:

Alpine meadow, alt. 1500m ASL. The flower is Knautia arvensis, the field scabious.

Notes:

Eristalis is a large genus of around 99 species, and is subdivided into several subgenera and species groups
