Yes, black trumpets start off less than 1 cm across.

The larger specimen is more like 10mm across, would this fit your ID?

I'd call it Craterellus fallax (black trumpet). It's very common to find very small ones in an early stage of development nearby full grown specimens up to 10cm across.

Hi! Looks like Craterellus cornucopioides (Horn of plenty), but based on size and rough interior of the funnel, I suggest C. cinereus.
