Ailanthus Webworm caterpillar

Atteva aurea

Description:

A group of Ailanthus webworms feeding on Ailanthus. I have a large Ailanthus tree, or Tree of Heaven beside my house. Also known as the Tree of Hell to gardeners because of the trees tendency to sprout in gardens and lawns and just about anywhere. I'm always pulling then out of my garden and grass. I was so happy to see something finally eating them!

Habitat:

urban

Notes:

I spotted these on newly sprouted tree of heavens beside my driveway.
