Yellow-striped armyworm moth caterpillar

Spodoptera ornithogalli

Description:

Minute caterpillar, just 5 mm long. Red-tinged green red & yellow striped with black "eyes" towards the rear.

Habitat:

Semi rural wildlife habitat. On rudbeckia in our butterfly garden.

Notes:

Not sure if this is a skipper or a moth.

I'm pretty sure this is an armyworm of some kind. I found one of these boring through a tomato plant in my yard a couple months ago!
