Crown Coral

Artomyces pyxidatus

Description:

tips of the branches resemble coral

Habitat:

temperate forest

Notes:

I was so excited to see this coral fungi. We've had a very dry summer and searching for fungi while hiking wasn't even on my mind most of the summer. I came upon it by chance as well. I sat down on a log to take a rest and noticed this fungi on the ground right in front or me. A recent rain had provided enough moisture for a few fungi in Short Hills park to fruit.
