Leucophaeus atricilla
Medium-sized Gull. Very white belly & chest, and neck. Bill two-toned, mostly black but with reddish tip. Black legs, and heavy black streaking on head.
Coastlines & surrounding wetlands.
Saw many of these gulls along the coast on Assateague Island, Virginia. These photos were taken with a Canon EF100-400 f/4-f/5.6 lens mounted on a Canon Rebel T2i.
You should be able to still click 'save' even though it says wait for photos to upload completely. It's annoying indeed, I too know far more about wildlife than websites unfortunately, but I'm getting better at the programming, slow but sure.
I can't even save mine. The photo will upload to 100%, but won't show, so I have to go into my spottings and edit the draft. Each time I add an additional photo I have to do this. It's not just Chrome, the problem was worse with Firefox. I can cope, it was just much easier before. Hopefully the PN tech guys are looking into it. I know all about wildlife, but next to nothing about how to work a website! Lol! :)
Yeah I'm having to upload one & save, then edit to upload the next & repeat. Slightly frustrating since most people will look at the spotting before it is fully complete. Doesn't seem to matter what browser I use either. OK, wasn't sure if it was the same species, the head seemed more flattened, I couldn't tell.
Didn't see you had a third one. Is PN making you edit the spotting to add additional photos like me?
The third one looks like a younger individual with the gray flanks, probably a second year.
Post-alternate molt. Transition from alternate to basic plumage. Bonie's gulls have slimmer heads, sort of Dove-like.
Thanks Liam, wasn't sure on this one or not, the reddish tip of the bill threw me. Is photo #3 the same species? They look similar but I can't tell.
