Eastern Red-Backed Salamander

Plethodon cinereus

Description:

(Thanks for the ID, Sarah_in_the_Woods!)

Habitat:

Found him in a mixture of mud and leaf litter amongst a rock formation trail. Hocking Hills State Park

Notes:

Sad fact: This was the first time I'd ever seen a salamander in my life. I wouldn't have picked up the little guy, but he was in the immediate center of the crowded trail and I couldn't bear to see him stepped on!
