Spotting

Notes:

What could this be?! Spotted by my younger cousin visiting from Colarado, found on the shore of a Nova Scotia beach (I believe it was in Lawrencetown). The body was about six inches wide and 4 inches long, give or take a few (not including the tail? at the end). Sadly, my dog got ahold of it before we got a chance to take more pictures or measurements. :( So I would like to get an identification on it to make up for the loss, I think my cousin who has since gone home would appreciate it!

My first thought was it looked like a mummified toad, but that big and that far north and on the beach... Toadfish or similar species is probably it.

Just throwing this in the mix: oyster cracker or toadfish?

It was seen on an Atlantic beach shore. :) Thank you for the input so far.

It could be some kind of eel

Was this from the river or ocean shore? I am not seeing any sighting so far of Largemouth bass or Walleye near that area.

Did you see the other side. Looks like it was gutted by a gull or another creature.

But, that is a crab in the background.

The long line in the front is actually a large mouth, so I can't imagine it being a crab!

Looks like a species of a crab but too far gone for me to know which.
