Asceles tanarata tanarata

Description:

Female Phasmid of the sub-species Asceles tanarata tanarata also known as Tiny Asceles. 3 Species of Asceles tanarata were described in 1999 from 3 different locality and placed as sub-species. Asceles tanarata-tanarata is among the smallest of the 3, hence its common name, Tiny Asceles, with the female just around 4 cm in size and much smaller wings. This sub-species are found from higher altitudes of around 2,000 masl. The second sub-species is Asceles tanarata amplior, also known as Medium Asceles, from the location of Fraser's & Genting Hills, which is around 1,000 - 1,500 masl, with medium sized wings. The third sub-species is Asceles tanarata singapura, also known as Singapore Asceles, only found in Singapore, biggest among the 3 sub-species and also with bigger/full wings.

Habitat:

High altitude mossy forest.
