Trigona iridipennis
These sting-less bees are one of the smallest in the world. About 4mm. They are also one of the greatest of pollinators of native plant species.
Here they are seen swarming an Ash Gourd flower in my terrace garden. They are carrying a fresh load of pollen on their legs!!

Congrats! Very nice series.
Congrat. for the SOTW.
Congratulations Sunny, this amazing series has been voted Spotting of the Week:
Carrying loads of pollen around ash gourd flowers, this tiny Indian stingless bee (Trigona iridipennis) has been voted Spotting of the Week! This bee species is found throughout the Indo-Malay region, and plays an important role in the pollination of native plant species. Our rangers team praised this spotting for the quality and variety of images including an in-flight shot, clear view of pollen on the bee's legs, and good descriptions, all this from a close-to-home garden habitat.
We had two close, excellent runners-up with a great series documenting the behavior of a parasitic wasp (also by Sunny Joseph) and a stunningly beautiful nudibranch from Albert Kang. Check them out!

Thank you so much Leuba and Christine... From my experience in gardening I could tell you that these tiny bees make so much difference in vegetable yeild.
Fantastic shots and I love the perspective that you shot from in the first photo...and the detail of the pollen is wonderful!
Great spotting Sunny ! A bee's perspective. Thanks. Hope you get lovely big gourds after all that..
Thank you Project Noah. Ashley, it's a great honour for me to be short listed. Thank you.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
