Those books were all there was at the time. In my later trips to the states nothing would compare to Sibley of course.

Yet there's nothing wrong with "the poor mans" field guide, Lenny. Gives you plenty of info about the species as well as references should you want more information. Seems to be quite a bit more up to date than several of the books you have on your shelf as well

Looks like a common sandpiper to me, Actitis hypoleucos. The leg colour is yellow, and that seems to be the right one. Check this out:

Ashley.
Do you have a field Guide To American Birds. If so which one.
This guide I recommended is for the Chiefs country.
The photos are washed out.
With a field guide and a pair of bins is how all birders start out.
I would never dream of visiting a country without either.

Colors aren't always true in photos, especially since the greens in the photos look fairly fluorescent. Are there other species it could be? I have yet to find any photo of the species you suggested that doesn't have a heavily spotted back. Including references with your suggestions would be way more useful than you always recommending people to buy books. We can't look at the book online, and it's very impractical for people to buy books on birds for tons of places. A reference would tell us about the species you are suggesting much easier

Leg color is wrong for Common Sand..Why dont you obtain this book.

I would agree with Actitis hypoleucos based on the pattern on the back, or lack of one, compared to Tringa glareola. Seem like pretty similar birds!

Hi Lenny, as you said I will always try to get pictures of flight. Here regarding the taxonomy I am confused a bit because I got another suggestion - Actitis hypoleucos. Can you please cross check regarding its id? Thank you Lenny.

Next time you see one of these birds Chief, you should flush it. it's important to see the flight pattern. This bird would have a white rump in flight.

This thing looks like a hybrid between a Common Sandpiper and Common Redshank! I don't think they do it though.
