Green Comma or Faunus Anglewing

Polygonia faunus

Description:

ragged wing edges, rich dark russet, black and yellow markings with dark margins on FW and HW.

Habitat:

The Faunus seeks out sunny glades in the forest for basking and feeding, especially coniferous (see photo #2) woods. BC south through central California and east to the Adirondacks.

Notes:

This beauty stayed sunning itself on the branch of this fir for a long time until I tried to get a photo of the underside of the wings and then it was gone!
