Black Saddlebags dragonflies

Tramea lacerata

Description:

Very active dragonflies that skim rapidly over ponds and mate while airborne. They spend most days in flight and rarely perch, which I learned pretty quickly while observing these. This was the third day in a row I attempted to photograph them, and I think I only got a clear shot because these two slowed down ever-so-slightly as they flew in tandem.

Habitat:

Over the pond at Yale Road Park.

Great shots! These are very difficult to capture. Like you said, they rarely perch.
