Sawfly

Perga nr. dahlbomii

Description:

Perched on eucalyptus foliage.

Notes:

Perga includes several species. THe steelblue sawfly refers to p. affinis or p. dorsalis or both. They are both local and similar. Can anyone tell which is which, and which this is? Thank you Bernhard. http://www.bowerbird.org.au/observations...

A sawfly is the fourth most primitive suborder of hymenoptera, they differ from wasps by 1/ non biting 2/ broad waist 3/ free living larvae, being grub/caterpillar-like rather than maggot-like.
