Brimstone Moth

Opisthograptis luteolata

Description:

About 4cm in width, bright yellow with brown marks on wing tips, and a silver mark near the shoulder. Can produce anything from 1 to 3 generations in a year, so can be seen between April and October. Mostly flies at night, though I saw this one during the day.

Habitat:

Very widespread throughout the UK, I found this guy on the ceiling of the hallway outside my flat.

Notes:

I had to get a chair to stand on so I could get some photos of this guy - got some weird looks from neighbours! He stayed on the ceiling for a good 3 days, until we got up one morning to get to work and he was gone.
