Ithomia patilla
Amazing!
1,244 Meter above sea level Lat. 10.03 Long. 84.29
This series of Glass wing-Espejitos butterflies were spotted in my backyard, San Ramon, Costa Rica. I found myself very lucky to find this today. This is one of my favorite Butterflies.
Thank you bayucca, I looked at so many Espejitos, Greta Oto, and you are right no red spot on the head, and they do not seem to have such colorful wing edges as mine, besides that I do not see any differences even when they were side to side...I am very disappointed it is not Espejitos but perhaps in the future as there are plenty of them here in Costa Rica.
Nymphalidae, Ithomiinae, Ithomia patilla, female. Greta sp. never has a red spot behind the head and the white bar is extending from margin to margin. In yours there is a tiny space between white bar and darker margin on the posterior forewing. In addition the veins looks different. The upper line of the largest transparent patch on the hindwing is curved in Greta morgane oto and angled in yours and Ithomia patilla. In Patilla there are also 2 transparent patches above this large transparent patch.
Anytime CarolSnowMilne, nature is everywhere here. Butterflies, Moth, Bugs, Birds, Volcanoes, Surfing and more. It is not a commercial It is true!!
Absolutely gorgeous and thanks for your nice comments on my moth photos. This is so amazing I must come to your country to see it.
Butterflies of Costa Rica, Greta Oto, Espejitos.
I apologize, but this is not Greta morgane oto. Unfortunately I did not had the time to check the ID. It is an Ithomiinae, but not from the genus Greta.
