Cocoi Heron

Ardea cocoi

Description:

We call the cocoi heron, "garza mora" and it is a common bird in Uruguay. It can be spotted all around Uruguay were it nests. It is a very big bird, about 75 cm tall, and it is the biggest of our herons.

Habitat:

It lives in wet lands, lagoons, ponds, rice plantations, river, swamps and freshwater lakes. It can be spotted around Southamerica. This one in particular was spotted at the "Lecocq reserve" in Montevideo, at the Cabybaras' place.
