Flower Wasp

Family: Tiphiidae

Description:

A large wasp with a slender, long black abdomen with bright yellow lateral stripes. Head, thorax and antennae were black and legs were brown. Wings were tinted a smokey brown.

Habitat:

Spotted in a suburban garden.

Notes:

This is a flower wasp - solitary wasps whose larvae are parasitoids of various beetle larvae. I am yet to ID this wasp - possibly Catocheilus sp.
