Phylacteophaga frogatti
Very often we find eucalyptus leaves that have been delaminated and puffed into a 'pillow' with a large void. This tiny wasp might be part of the story. It was at a rough opening on this leaf and seems to be extricating itself from a skin just inside the hole. About 6mm long with distinctive black pterostigma and a longish flexed abdomen..
On a very small eucalyptus leaf in a local nature reserve. Glenfern Valley Reserve.
Could this be the cause of the blister effect or possibly a parasite of another player in the game.
Thanks Stephen Thorpe for direction. This one looks very much like P frogatti - the male has black over the thorax. They are called leaf-miner sawfly so this animal would probably have been responsible for the leaf blister.
