Sunbird building nest

Leptocoma zeylonica

Description:

This is the female busy building its nest. Heartbreakingly fragile.

Habitat:

Near my house. Urban residential colony. We have two very big lakes nearby. The Lagerstroemia tree by the lakeside is the home. This bird kept flying in with stuff in its beak...I thought it was food for the chicks but now I think it is moss and stuff. Wikipedia says The nests of sunbirds are generally purse-shaped, enclosed, suspended from thin branches with generous use of spiderweb...indeed lots of sticky spider silk.

great catch! The sunbird, barbet koyal, bulbul, myna, parot, taylor bird are lovely looking. When I go to Bombay, the gulmohar tree in the front and fig tree in the back have lots of drama going on.mating to nest building to babies, feeding the young etc etc. There is a crow that mimics parrots ,possibly to lure the babies out?Since we are not too far off from the coast ,kingfishers visit too.Once i saw the taylor bird eyeing the pupa of a butterfly high up on the tree.
