Prairie Hawk

Falco mexicanus

Description:

Prairie Hawk, spotted in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Oklahoma. When I fist parked near the Ikana Bridge that leads to the Chickasaw Cultural Center, I saw this bird perched high in a dead tree far away. I went back to get my camera, but he was gone when I returned. Then, much to my surprise, as I began crossing the bridge it swooped in and landed in a tree only about five meters away from me--and stuck around to pose for a few photos!

Originally had this listed as a red-tailed hawk, but have changed that to a prairie hawk based on description on the Audubon website. It does appear to be out of their range though (just slightly), so someone please correct me if I have misclassified this bird.
