Monarch Chrysalis

Danaus plexippus

Description:

On the same day I saw one failed metamorphosis, I found this one as well. I think they were both from the same hatch and stayed on the same plant throughout their cycle. Many of the caterpillars that were on our milkweeds traveled to other milkweeds in our yard but a few stayed on the same plant their whole larval stage.

Habitat:

Milkweed plant in a suburban yard
