Thanks beaker98 and Jemma. It was only a little spider, not skinny but not overly stout either. I have not seen one like this before. And I did notice the greyish padding under the feet! Not sure if it was just a reflection from the fence wire - although it does look rather definate and 'cushy' - makes life on rough surfaces much easier!

looks like it has padding under it's feet like cats do. That would be nice for them.

Nice photograph. I would have thought it was much bigger. Looks like a pretty stout spider in the photograph.

Thanks Stephen. Unfortunately I could only get a quick shot from the side. It was a really unusual pinkish red - the photo doesn't show the true colour. It certainly ran and sat differently to a Wolf Spider though, the abdomen appeared more elongated as well. Thanks for help much appreciated.

I am not very good at these, possibly a Miturgidae or one of the prowling spiders http://www.arachne.org.au/01_cms/details... or a wolf spider http://www.arachne.org.au/01_cms/details... but it is a bit hard from the side. Also http://www.findaspider.org.au/find/speci... .
