Metalmark Moth

Description:

Small moth of 5 mm in length. The wings are covered with tufts of scales and when seen from the side, the moth looks lumpy and has metallic magenta colored scales. She laid a batch of 49 tiny pink eggs on a wall, each less than 0.1mm in size. They hatched on July 27, 10 days later (last picture). The larvae were hairy and less than 1 mm in length. Family Choreutidae.

Habitat:

Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
