Asota Plana Caterpillar

Asota Plana

Description:

Each caterpillar was about four inches long, and an inch in width. Along the body of the caterpillar was covered in long hairs about a centimeter long. The head of the caterpillar was a shiny black with a strip of red behind the head. The rest of the body was covered in a pattern of alternating thicker black stripes and then a thinner white stripe.

Habitat:

I found these caterpillars resting in the sun on a leaf, in the Singapore American School's secondary rainforest. I also found other caterpillars near by on the undersides of leaves.

Notes:

I found these caterpillars, and well as others on neighbouring leaves around noon.
