Pachydiplax longipennis
Powder blue male dragonfly with green eyes and clear wings. It is a very pale yellow under the thorax and abdomen. The males have this color pattern where females are yellow and black striped. It rested on a twig or plant near the water then flew off when hunting nearby insects. It usually returned to the same twig or plant.
Chaparral near a pond. This is a very common species that is found in most of the continental US, Canada and Mexico.
