Wild Cracker Horse

Equus caballus

Description:

Brown Wild Horses of Payne's Prairie, Gainesville, FL said to have grazed in the area for over 500 years. Brought over to the New World from Spain.

Habitat:

From hardwood forest to marsh prairie.

Notes:

Spotted a herd or team of Wild Horses on the Bolen Bluff Trail. The foal was recently born and others on the trail warned that the adult was protective and sometimes blocks the trail. We proceeded cautiously without incident.
