Chequered Swallowtail butterfly

Papilio demoleus

Description:

A beautiful and large butterfly, striped black and white body and patterned wings tinged with creamy yellow, with two eye pattern spots on the hind wings coloured orange rimmed with pale blue and look similar in pattern to peacock feathers. Caterpillars feed on specific plants including the Emu's Foot a perrennial herb.

Habitat:

Found in eastern Australia. This one found near wetland country.

Thanks Neil. I had to sneak up on this one as it landed on the grass. I've seen a couple more since then but always when I don't have the long lens. They are quite large and incredibly beautiful in colour & pattern.
