Burrowing Bug

Description:

A relatively large Burrowing Bug at 1 cm in length, black with a scutellum dipping below the crossing of the wings. Note the heavy spines on the hind femora. It was found under a log and immediately burrowed back into the soil. This bug family, the Cydnidae, is related to the Shield Bug family, Pentatomidae. Most feed on the roots of plants in the soil.

Habitat:

Under a log, forest, Reserva de la Biosfera Calakmul, Campeche, Mexico.

en una ocasion me toco sentir los efectos de la excrecion de estos insectos. me dejo una ampula acuosa la cual al secarse dejo una costra y tardo una semana en caerse!
