Blueblack Hairy Flower WAsp

Austroscolia soror

Description:

Same attractive wasp as in
http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/140...
but after it had settled a little. When at rest the wings fold over. Wing venation do not extend to the margins (pic 4).

Habitat:

Suburban garden.
Adult females are parasitoids on beetle larvae so are usually seen flying low around compost or wood heaps and dry tree stumps.
Occurrence record:
http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:b...

Notes:

Adult flower wasps feed on nectar. They do not have a communal hive to defend and so are not aggressive. Seen two of these in the same place in as many weeks ! My first spotting of these on 9 March was exciting but I could not get close-up shots. Family: Scoliidae.
